Ingredients

For the Taco Shells:

  • 6–8 soft or hard taco shells (store-bought or homemade)

For the Filling (Veg Version):

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 capsicum, diced

  • 1 tomato, chopped

  • 1 cup boiled kidney beans or black beans

  • 1 tsp garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • 1 tsp paprika or chili powder

  • ½ tsp oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • A squeeze of lemon juice

Optional Toppings:

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Grated cheese

  • Sour cream or yogurt

  • Salsa or chopped tomatoes

  • Guacamole or avocado slices

  • Chopped onions or jalapeños

  • Fresh coriander or cilantro


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat oil in a pan, sauté garlic and onions until soft.

  2. Add capsicum and tomato; cook for 2–3 minutes.

  3. Add the boiled beans, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.

  4. Cook for 5–7 minutes, mashing beans slightly.

  5. Finish with lemon juice and mix well.

Step 2: Warm the Taco Shells

  • Warm soft tacos on a tawa or pan for 30 seconds on each side.

  • If using hard taco shells, heat them in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes until crisp.

Step 3: Assemble the Tacos

  1. Place a spoonful of filling into each taco shell.

  2. Top with your choice of lettuce, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.

  3. Garnish with fresh herbs or a squeeze of lime.


Tips

  • You can also use paneer, tofu, or minced soya as an alternative to beans.

  • For a non-veg version, use grilled chicken or spiced minced meat.

  • Add a drizzle of hot sauce for extra heat.
