Ingredients
-
2 cups khoya (mawa) – unsweetened, crumbled
-
¾ cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
-
½ tsp cardamom powder
-
1 tbsp milk (if needed for softening)
-
1 tbsp ghee
-
Chopped pistachios or almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Base
-
Heat ghee in a nonstick or heavy-bottomed pan.
-
Add crumbled khoya and stir continuously over low flame for 4–5 minutes.
-
Once it turns soft and slightly gooey, turn off the heat and let it cool for a minute.
Step 2: Add Sugar & Flavor
-
Add powdered sugar and cardamom powder to the warm khoya mixture.
-
Mix well. The sugar will release some moisture, forming a dough-like texture.
-
If too dry, add 1 tbsp of warm milk and knead gently.
Step 3: Shape the Pedas
-
While the mixture is still warm, take small portions and roll into smooth balls.
-
Flatten slightly to form pedas.
-
Garnish with chopped nuts and gently press in the center.
Tips
-
Use fresh mawa for best taste and texture.
-
Don't overcook the khoya after adding sugar; it may harden.
-
Store in an airtight container for up to 5–6 days in the refrigerator.
